PLACES OF INTEREST
Zelaikoa is located in the town of Zestoa (formerly Cestona) , a place celebrated above all for its thermal waters, for its historical, elegant Cestona Spa, the Ekain cave, famous for its cave paintings and its replica, Ekainberri.
Although the location of the farmhouse is located in the hinterland and in the middle of nature, the beach in Zumaia is just 4 kilometres away and thus both sea and mountain activities can be easily accommodated.
Besides, it is just a short distance away from other important and attractive localities of the area such as Getaria, Deba, Zarautz, Azpeitia, etc.
One of the must-see place in the area is the famous Flysch cliffs in Zumaia (protected biotype area) which are truly spectacular and to which geologists from all over the world come to study the different strata which have been worn down down through the centuries from very remote times.
Rambling along various footpaths in precious areas of natural beauty such as around Mr. Izarraitz is possible.
There are countless towns and picturesque corners which brighten up the view such as the Balcony of GIpuzkoa, located in Errezil Valley next to Mt. Ernio or towns surrounded by nearly pristine natures such as Aizarna or Beizama.
In the nearby town of Azpeitia, there is the imposing St. Ignatius of Loyola Sanctuary which surrounds the birth place of St. Ignatius of Loyola, a site which is certainly worth a visit. Nearby is the Environmental Musuem, aka Ingurugiro Etxea. The Ibai-Eder reservoir is located in the same municipality.
Donostia-San Sebastian, the capital of the Province of Gipuzkoa, is just a 20 minute drive away. There are places such as Mt. Igeldo which are well worth a visit where there is a classic amusement park which accessible by cable car nearly a century old. There is also a wonderful Aquarium located in the fishing port as well as the Kutxaespazio Science Museum located in the Miramón area, etc.
Bilbao is relatively close by (79 km) as well as the Basque capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz (90 m), two cities that have their own unique style and countless places that beckon the visitor such as the Guggenheim Museum, the Portugalete Suspension Bridge or the Cathedral in Vitoria.
The French border is close at hand and very easy to reach, just 35 km. away.
